
The impact of the economic activities on the environment debated during an international conference in Bucharest
The Center for Legal Resources and its partners, Terra Millenium III Foundation and Justice & Environment Association organized on the 19th October, in Bucharest, an international conference on the transposition and implementation of the Environmental Impact Assessment procedures (EIA) and the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) procedures in Romania.
The conference was addressed to the public servants in the administration, to the judges, to the representatives of the civil society and also to the interested public.
The results of the monitoring activity carried out by CLR on how the environmental authorities in Bucharest and Romania meet national and international legal framework on environmental protection and the right to information of citizens, before granting environmental opinions to different economic agents, have been presented on this occasion. All these results have been put together in a “Guide regarding the public participation to the decision making process on the environmental matters”, launched during the event. The Guide was also presented to the journalists during a press conference on the 21st October.
The foreign experts attending the international conference stressed the necessity for the public authorities to consult the public before establishing a policy, plan or program that can have effects on the environment.
The event was organized within the project funded by the European Union through the Phare 2006 Program „Strengthening the role of the civil society in the integration process of Romania”, 2nd section – Democracy, protection of the environment, protection of the customer, social dialog, gender aspects and employment.
