Today, January 16, 2018, Romania was evaluated within the UN Universal Periodic Review mechanism, at the 29th session of the UPR Working Group. This process includes the evaluation, every five years, of the human rights situation in each member state, an evaluation which is being done by the other states.[1]
The Centre for Legal Resources reacted to the national report sent by the Romanian state within this process.[2] We were in the room and distributed to the missions of the member states our position on the rights of national minorities in Romania, particularly in the context of the statements of Prime Minister Tudose on the Szekler flag and on autonomy; and on the rights of people with disability institutionalized, a topic which is not one that preoccupies Romania, in spite of the serious breaches of rights and the repeated criticisms Romania receives from international human rights bodies. The UPR report on Romania, which includes all the recommendations Romania received within this session, will be adopted at the end of the week, on Friday, January 19, 2018.
